As of March 2024, Canada’s Greener Homes Subsidy program will no longer be taking new applications, as announced by the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI). HRAI has confirmed that demand for subsidies from individuals has exceeded initial forecasts, and that the average amount of these applications has exceeded expectations.
So, if you’re considering replacing your oil heating system with a heat pump, or installing a heat pump for your heating system, it’s crucial to act quickly.

What other subsidies are available?
Chauffez Vert Program
- Offered by the Québec government
- Subsidy to replace an oil or propane heating system with a heat pump.
- The amount of the subsidy varies according to the size of the heat pump ($50 per thousand BTU/h at -8°C heating – Example: a 10,000 BTU/h heat pump will give you $500).
- Offered by the Québec government
- Financial assistance for the installation of energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, including heat pumps
- Amount of financial assistance varies according to the type of system and energy efficiency (financial assistance will be $50 for every 1,000 BTU of heating at -8°C, replacing the fixed amount of $650 currently offered).
- Financial assistance for the purchase and installation of an eligible central or wall-mounted heat pump.
- Subsidy amount varies according to heat pump capacity and energy efficiency
- Up to $6,720 for the most efficient central heat pumps
- Program available to Hydro-Québec residential customers
LogisVert subsidy
- Financial assistance for the installation of several types of energy-efficient appliances and systems, including heat pumps.
- Subsidies for residential and commercial customers
- Subsidy amounts vary according to the type of measure and energy efficiency.
