With the new laws concerning oil-fired heating appliances in force since 2021, seize the opportunity to convert your current oil-fired heating system to a more efficient electric heating system. However, considering the work involved, the initial cost of converting to an electric system can be daunting, and may even put a damper on your project.
However, we do have subsidy solutions available from the Quebec and Canadian governments to help offset some of the conversion costs.
In November 2022, the federal government launched a subsidy to support middle- and low-income households wishing to replace their oil heating system. This initiative is also linked to the Canadian Green Home Program.
As an accredited contractor, Tran Climatisation offers you the possibility of obtaining the subsidy for Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program, which can amount to up to $5,000.
Note that hybrid low-temperature air-source heat pumps (combining ducted central heat pumps with a furnace running on oil, gas or propane) are not eligible under the Affordable Oil-to-Heat Pump Affordability Program. Be sure to check the list of heat pump models eligible for the program.
Before applying, we invite you to consult the eligibility criteria page of the Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Program.
The Quebec government’s Chauffez Vert program encourages the replacement of oil-fired heating systems with more environmentally-friendly solutions. This includes all systems using fossil fuels, with the exception of natural gas. The program offers subsidies ranging from $250 to $1275.
This assistance is available to owners of single-family homes and multi-unit residential buildings, subject to certain conditions. In addition, major changes will be introduced concerning heat pumps, affecting subsidies for their installation or replacement.
Tran Climatisation is proud to offer you the brand-new “Efficient Heat Pumps” subsidy program offered since February 2021 by Hydro-Québec. This program encourages the purchase and use of heat pumps. This subsidy covers only the work surrounding your heat pump, not the removal of your oil furnace.
Before starting any work, it’s important to make sure that you and your new heat pump meet the eligibility criteria. Once your eligible heat pump has been installed, you have 6 months to apply for financial assistance.
The financial assistance provided by the subsidy varies according to the system’s winter heating capacity. You receive $50 per thousand BTU/h of heating at -8°C. For example, a heat pump rated at 10,000 BTU/h at -8°C will receive a $500 subsidy, while a heat pump rated at 20,000 BTU/h at -8°C will receive a $1,000 subsidy.
