What is a Carrier heat pump?

A heat pump is a cooling and heating system that has an indoor unit (evaporator) and an outdoor unit (compressor). During the colder months, the heat pump extracts heat from the cold outside and transfers it to the indoor unit, and during the warmer months, it extracts heat from your indoor environment to cool your home. A heat pump transfers heat for year-round comfort. In addition, most Carrier heat pump models have a dehumidification and ventilation function.

Carrier offers two types of heat pumps. Also called a ductless split unit, the wall-mounted heat pump has two units. It can be single-zone, with a single evaporator, or multi-zone (up to five evaporators for a single compressor).

The central heat pump has an outdoor compressor, but requires a ventilation or heating system to operate properly. Otherwise, installation is more expensive and requires proper ductwork to distribute heat and cooling throughout the building.
