What is a Carrier heat pump?

A heat pump is a cooling and heating system that has an indoor unit (evaporator) and an outdoor unit (compressor). During colder months, the heat pump pulls heat from the cold outdoor and transfers it to the indoor unit, and in warmer months, it pulls heat out of your indoor environment to cool down your home. A heat pump transfers heat to provide comfort all year long. A heat pump can also dehumidify and ventilate your home.

Two types of heat pumps

Carrier provides you with a variety of heat pump models and sizes, but there are mostly two types of heat pumps. Also called a ductless split system, the wall mounted heat pump has two units. It can be single-zone, with only one evaporator, or multizone (up to five evaporators for a single compressor).

The central heat pump has an outdoor compressor, but requires a ventilation or heating system to function properly. If not, the installation is more expensive and needs the appropriate duct system to distribute the heat and cool throughout the building.
